Titanic Museum Pigeon Forge, TN

We love everything and anything history related, so the chance to visit the Titanic Museum was one we jumped on right away for our trip to the Great Smokey Mountains. This is a family friendly museum. But Rita, how can they make this tragic event in history family friendly? Dogs, dogs make everything better.

When we got to the museum, we were given our boarding passes. On the boarding pass is the name of a person who was on the Titanic to include a little background about them. As you tour the museum, you find out a little bit of history about the person on your boarding pass. For the kids, they were given a child passenger and the opportunity to find out about their passenger as well.

There were so many amazing artifacts throughout the museum. My personal favorite was the pocket watch that stopped the moment it hit the water when the ship was going down. You can stand on the Grand Stairs, put your hands in the water simulating the same temperature it was that night in 1912, shoveling coal into the furnaces of the ship, check out the living quarters for the third class passengers, and see the only photos from the first few days of the journey before it left from Europe to cross the Atlantic.

So I said dogs make everything better, how so? That’s what your kiddo gets to do as you tour the museum. There is a “lost puppy” on the Titanic that they need to follow. As you are reading or listening to the history of the lost ship, they are on a scavenger hunt to find one of the dogs that was onboard the Titanic. At the end, they find the lost puppy, and you find out the fate of your boarding pass persona. For us, all of our passengers lived through the sinking, and we were able to see interesting facts about their lives after surviving the Titanic.

Make sure you book your tour ahead of time. You can pick a time slot on the website. I recommend planning to be there for most of the day if you really want to get the most out of your tour. Enjoy this amazing little gen in Pigeon Forge!
